Courier is a desktop email program. Your mail is fetched by the app on your own computer, straight from your own mail provider, and stored on your own disk. There is no Courier account, no Courier server holding your mail, and no analytics. Nobody at Courier can read your email, because it never reaches us.

What Courier stores, and where

Everything Courier keeps lives on the computer you installed it on, in that machine's normal per-user application data folder:

None of it is transmitted to us or to anyone else. Deleting the application data folder deletes all of it.

What actually leaves your computer

This is the complete list.

Google account data

If you sign in to a Gmail account with "Sign in with Google", Courier requests one permission: https://mail.google.com/. That is the only scope Google offers that permits IMAP and SMTP, which is the protocol Courier speaks. It is used for exactly one thing — connecting to Gmail's IMAP and SMTP servers to read and send your mail on your own computer. Courier does not use the Gmail API.

Courier's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Concretely, and not merely as a recital: your Google data is never transferred anywhere by Courier, is never seen by a human, is never used for advertising, is never sold, and is never used to train any model. It is on your computer and it stays there.

Courier stores only the refresh token Google issues, in your operating system's credential store. You can revoke it at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, with or without uninstalling Courier. Removing the account inside Courier also asks Google to revoke it.

What Courier never does

This website

The web server hosting this page keeps ordinary access logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser user-agent), which is what a web server does by default. There are no cookies, no analytics scripts and no third-party trackers on this site.

Children

Courier is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, so there is nothing here for a parent to request the deletion of.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Because Courier holds nothing of yours, a change here can only ever be about what the software does on your own machine, and that is described in the release notes too.
